Getting Started

1. First Launch

  • Accept the medical disclaimer (required for health apps)
  • Review privacy settings
  • The app works immediately — no account required

2. Set Up Your Profile

  • Tap your avatar in the top-right corner
  • Add a profile photo (optional)
  • Enter: Name, Age, Gender, Weight
  • This helps personalize insights

📸 Food Scanning & Analysis

Method 1: Camera Scan

  1. Tap the green/blue + ADD floating button (center bottom, above tab bar)
  2. Select "Scan Food"
  3. Camera opens automatically (grant camera permission first time)
  4. Point camera at your meal
  5. Position food within the corner markers
  6. Tap capture button
  7. Review AI analysis: Food name, FODMAP level (Low/Medium/High with emoji indicators), Ingredients breakdown, Portion estimates

How to Scan a Restaurant Menu:

  1. Tap + ADD floating button → "Scan Menu"

Exporting Your Data:

Export to Podcast:

  1. Tap "Export to Podcast"
  2. Choose date range: Last Week (7 days), Last Month (30 days), Last 3 Months (90 days)
  3. Select export method: Share File (Save as .txt or share via AirDrop, email) or Copy to Clipboard (Copy text to paste into podcast services)
  4. Upload to NotebookLM or other podcast generators (e.g., Podcastle, Descript)

General Questions

Do I need an account to use FODMAPai?

No. The app works immediately without account creation. All data is stored locally on your device.

Is my data synced to the cloud?

Data is stored locally by default. iCloud sync is optional and can be enabled in device Settings → iCloud. When enabled, data syncs across your Apple devices securely.

Can I use the app offline?

Yes, for viewing and logging data. AI features (food analysis, chat, recipes) require an internet connection.

How much does the app cost?

FODMAPai is free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions required.

Is my health data private?

Yes. All data is stored locally on your device. When using AI features, Zero Data Retention is enabled by default, meaning your data is processed but not stored by third-party services. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How accurate is the AI food analysis?

The AI uses a comprehensive FODMAP database and provides estimates. Results include confidence scores. Always verify with official FODMAP sources and consult healthcare providers for medical advice.

Why isn't my food being recognized correctly?

  • Ensure good lighting and clear photos
  • Describe the food in text along with the photo
  • Use manual entry for complex or uncommon foods

Can I edit a logged food entry?

Yes. Tap any food card to view details, then edit name, portion, time, or re-analyze.

How do I delete entries?

Swipe left on any entry card, or tap the entry and use the delete option.

How do I enable voice input in AI Chat?

Tap the microphone icon in the chat interface. Grant microphone permission when prompted (Settings → FODMAPai → Microphone).

Privacy & Security Questions

What is Zero Data Retention (ZDR)?

When enabled (default ON), OpenRouter processes your data but does not store it. This enhances privacy. You can toggle this in Settings → Privacy & Security.

Where is my data stored?

All health data is stored locally on your iPhone using iOS Data Protection. Data is encrypted at rest. If iCloud sync is enabled, data is synced via CloudKit with end-to-end encryption.

Do you sell my data?

No. We do not sell, share, or monetize your personal or health data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Tap your profile avatar (top-right of Home screen) → Export & Sharing → Export to Podcast. The export includes your diary data, podcast generation prompt, and the FODMAP database in text format.

How do I delete all my data?

Tap your profile avatar → Settings → Storage Settings → Delete All Data. Warning: This action cannot be undone. Export your data first if you want to keep a backup.

Medical & Health Questions

Can FODMAPai diagnose medical conditions?

No. FODMAPai is for educational and tracking purposes only. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions. Always consult qualified healthcare providers for medical advice.

Should I follow the AI's dietary recommendations?

The app provides information and suggestions based on FODMAP data. Always verify recommendations with healthcare providers, especially if you have medical conditions.

Can I use this app instead of seeing a doctor?

No. FODMAPai is a tracking tool, not a replacement for medical care. Consult healthcare providers for diagnosis, treatment, and dietary planning.

The app says a food is "Low FODMAP" but I still have symptoms. Why?

FODMAP tolerances vary by person. The app provides general guidelines. Work with a dietitian to identify your personal triggers.

Issue: App Won't Open or Crashes on Launch

Solutions:

  1. Force quit the app (swipe up from bottom, find FODMAPai, swipe up)
  2. Restart your iPhone
